# Cargo Vaults and Vault Shares

> How Cargo vaults and their shares work: one asset, one location, one share class, 1 share = 1 unit of the asset. The Genesis Vault (cvCOCOA), the vault lines, supported networks and what to check before you bid.

A Cargo vault holds one real-world asset as receipted, pledged inventory and issues one class of vault shares against it, with its own lots and its own NAV. Any asset that passes the [eight collateral tests](https://docs.cargotrading.xyz/products/real-world-assets.md#eight-tests-for-any-commodity) can get a vault. The first programme, **Cargo Vault One**, opens with the **Genesis Vault**: West African Grade 1 cocoa, issued as cvCOCOA.
